How To Choose The Right Worktop For Your Kitchen

As well as being hardwearing, durable and easy to maintain, your worktops can elevate your kitchen into something truly special, so take time to choose the best material, colour and finish for your space.

In our latest blog, we explain the benefits of different worktops and how they can enhance your kitchen.

Worktops and splashbacks are primarily practical choices. You want to choose something that’s tough, durable, able to withstand daily wear and tear, and resistant to stains, scratches, heat and UV rays to keep it looking its best for as long as possible.

Worktop style matters when it comes to kitchen design.

Whether you’re a keen cook, a home baker, someone who loves to entertain or a family with children who need space to sit and draw, paint or do their homework, worktops have many uses. As well as their practical benefits, worktops can also have a huge influence on the finished look and feel of your kitchen. They can be used to create a colour contrast with your cabinetry, blend in with a complementary shade and tone, or add a mix-and-match look with different materials or colours on an island, breakfast bar and main run of units.

Here at BCK Interiors, we recommend Quartz, Dekton, Corian and Ceramic worktops and splashbacks, as these combine all the practical benefits you need with a wide choice of colours, patterns and finishes to add wow factor and a statement look to your space.

Worktop Materials — which is right for you?

Quartz worktops

The great thing about Quartz, Ceramic, Corian and Dekton is that they all emulate the look and feel of natural stone such as marble, granite and limestone without the maintenance and price tag to match. Quartz, which is made from tiny pieces of natural quartz stone, is a great option when you want the enduringly luxe look of marble, for instance, with a huge choice of colours and veined detailing that looks just like the real thing. Quartz can be subtle or sparkling, dramatic or demure, chunky or slimline and is hardwearing, durable, scratch resistant, easy to clean, eco-friendly and hygienic, especially if it comes with Microban® antimicrobial technology, which inhibits the growth of bacteria on its surface.

Ceramic Worktops

Ceramic worktops are created from ceramic material subjected to extremely high temperatures and substantial pressure. Consequently, ceramic, also known as sintered stone, countertops exhibit exceptional durability and can easily handle the demands of modern kitchen life.

Corian Worktops

Corian worktops are crafted from reconstituted crushed natural minerals reinforced with polymer acrylic resins. Corian countertops are an excellent choice for kitchens due to their non-porous nature, which makes them highly resistant to stains and easy to maintain in a clean and hygienic condition. A big win for Corian worktops is the range of colours and patterns available.

Dekton ultra-compact surfaces

Made by Spanish company Cosentino, Dekton is an ultra-compact surface made from a mix of over 20 minerals that are bonded together to produce an ultra-thin surface that gives your kitchen a sleek, chic look. It’s incredibly practical, too, as it’s abrasion, scratch, impact, water and stain resistant. Style-wise, it’s available in a variety of sizes with different slabs that can be joined together along with a choice of thicknesses and a huge range of colours and textures, including ultra-glossy, matte and velvet finishes. It’s also a carbon-neutral product, so it is an excellent option if you want to make sustainable home choices.
